For me, Thanksgiving is a time of seeing friends who have moved away, and spending time with family. In my experience, most people have some kind of a tradition that revolves around Thanksgiving. For us, it’s more of a cross family tradition that started a few years ago.

After a day of eating to much, and spending time with family, my dad and I like to get a group of friends together and shoot birds. For us, its a time of multi-generational bonding. My Dad and myself release the pheasants early in the morning, and a few hours later our friends the Gooders arrive with Mr. Gooder, his son, and two grandsons. Its a chance to enjoy the outdoors, watch a beautiful dog work the field, and enjoy a dram of scotch, or a glass of wine after.

Fighting Off Cabin Fever! Photographer style!

Wow winter just keeps on coming! We have gotten nearly 36 inches of snow in the past week, and it still continues to fall! It honestly hasn’t stopped snowing for more than a few hours at a time since the storm hit last week!

So between snowboarding in POWDER (yep that stuff we don’t see on the East Coast very often) and cooking, I somehow manage to have to fight cabin fever off with a camera! I guess that’s just the life of a photographer. Anyways, the one day we had blue skies for a few hours I ran out side and grabbed some photos of the farm I grew up on.

After a drive that typically takes me an hour took me more than twice that long, I ended up getting stuck on the road to my parents house and had to walk the last half mile through more than 18 inches of snow. The next day I got my car out of the snow and headed to Seven Springs for some great skiing. After I could barely stand from hours of riding powder, the sun came out and I had a chance to take some photos around my parents house as the sun was setting.

I even got some photos of Willie my Welsh Corgie enjoying the snow in the driveway because it was to deep for him where it wasn’t plowed.

Emily and Matt: A NYC Winter engagement session by a Pittsburgh Wedding Photographer

In December I traveled to the Big Apple to photograph Emily and Matt’s engagement session in what I consider to be the Wild and not always so Wonderful New York City. This time however, I loved my trip to Manhattan.

Emily and Matt were referred to me by a friend, and since they live in NY we didnt have a chance to meet before they booked their wedding. So this was a great chance for us to get to know each other, and also shoot some awesome images of them around their home.

They are both self proclaimed beer snobs, so we started off the day at the Ginger Man, which also is where they had their first pseudo date.

We then went over to Grand Central Station, the ice rink at Rockefeller Center because really, whats more New York City than that?

Enjoy.

We finished the day at their favorite bar that specialized in Belgium Beers.

These were just a few of my favorites, but I hope that you like them. I cant wait for your wedding in Pittsburgh this coming April.

I cant wait for winter to come! My goggles, ski pants, boots, and snowboard, are all ready for the white stuff to come. Im so excited to get out on the slopes and start shooting some winter lifestyle, be it families playing and having fun, or kids throwing cork 9′s off of a big table top, its a new beginning, a chance to shoot what I love; a chance to take a nap, and wake up fully refreshed, with new ideas, and start rocking a new year of weddings.

I’ll also be shooting a little bit of fashion, and glamor, just to mix it up a bit. It helps me to come up with new ideas for brides and grooms, and try and keep it fresh, and fun.

I love this photo from back in September. I was out shooting a wedding downtown, and as we were walking back to the limo, I saw this guy walking up the street and I turned and grabbed this photo. I took three images, and this was my favorite.

Dont be afraid to take time to shoot for you. I was talking to a group of photographers recently, and they, like me were burned out. Because they were burned out they were unhappy, and very stressed out. Sometimes its better to just take a day to yourself, go out and shoot something that you want. If you aren’t a photographer, go do something that you love, just for you. After a day of R & R, you will come back more refreshed than you ever could have imagined a single day could do.
